How To Discover My Type

Discovering your Type with Socionics is usually a 2-step process:

  1. First Construct understanding by reading through and sorting yourself into the various small groups;
  2. Then Confirm appreciations by reading global overviews and descriptions of the 16 personality types, watching edutainment videos and by contacting WhiteKnight82WhiteKnight82.

So I have my Type now what?

Now you can see the "bigger picture" of yourself in relation to others in the Socion. You're now ready to explore the 16 relationship types to complete this puzzle of interpersonal relations.

And what use does it serve to "pigeon-hole" people and their relationships?

I begin this answer with a classic quotation:

"My scheme of typology is only a scheme of orientation. There is such a factor as introversion, there is such a factor as extroversion. The classification of individuals means nothing, nothing at all. It is only the instrumentarium for the practical psychologist to explain, for instance, the husband to a wife or vice versa." —Carl Jung, 1957

It is worth considering thus that relationships "just happen". People don't usually stop to think who they will get together with because that would be against our natures. However, the ability to "conquer our natures" allows us to make a more reasonable and conscious choice of how we choose to interact with others after initial first contacts.

In other words, in a world of honest value exchange it provides a way for the average person to mimic a practical-psychologist1 to positively discriminate against those who continue to act within their nature which by default may be harmful to self and/or others.

NLP generally proclaims how we should learn to master ourselves by using a guidebook for the brain we previously knew little or nothing about. The same applies here to using knowledge of Type in a practical way where relationships can then be tolerated ideally better whether argumentatively they are "good" or "bad" by the standards set forth in Socionics.

Conclusions

"Truth Happens". That is, we don't all have the time to STOP & THINK about what's going on. Those who choose to can and will gain specific powers over nature usually through periodic and comprehensive introspection.

A quotation to illustrate this point:

"Romanes acknowledged that to interpret an animal's thought processes this way required a heavy dose of inference from our own mental patterns, which we access through introspection." — Stephen Budiansky, If a Lion Could Talk

So only through a relatively good amount of self-knowledge and goal-setting can we hope to "conquer our natures" and develop thus taking control of our destinies and achieving the results we want. The default alternative leaves us in a "comfort zone" (aka "a rut of quiet desperation") watching others "succeed" instead. The simple condition for life thus becomes apparent: flourish else perish.
